Happy New Year!

Another year come and gone - wow.  Time flies.  2010 was fairly uneventful - some bumps here and there but I survived.  My baby started kindergarten which was VERY exciting and I moved which was not as exciting.  Same town, just closer to the beach.  The one bummer - the house is smaller so we're still finding appropriate spots for all our stuff (and I mean stuff).

I have a fairly ambitious plan for 2011 but who knows.  I have my eye on a couple cool jobs, I'm looking forward to re-engaging in my Jr. League chapter after a very long sabbatical,  I want to do a little  re-decorating, update the wardrobe, pick up yoga diligently again and I am determined (and I know I should have already done this) to visit the dermatologist for a skin check.  I also really want to try something called Freshology (www.freshology.com).  It's a food delivery service with meals comprised of completely fresh, all natural and gourmet meals.

Anyway, I've never been a huge NYE fan so we reached the following level of excitement last night:  chores, afternoon at the beach with kids & dogs, watched Diary of a Wimpy Kid with the kids, watched Getting Him to the Greek with the better half and a glass of wine, then read  The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein before bed which is soooo good but a tearjerker.

Today has been devoted to laundry, laundry and more laundry, moving furniture around, waiting for the cable dude to fix our blown-out modem and football.  Now I'm not really a collegiate football fan unless Notre Dame or BC are involved.  The better half on the other hand brings fan to a whole new level, especially if it involves any team in the SEC.  Ho-hum.

Anyway, wishing you love, laughter and happiness in the New Year!

Fun stuff

Here are a few things that I am wanting right now that are so cute and preppy...

An adorable melamine, momogrammed plate by Kate's Plates found at: http://www.kates-plates.com/

A couple of items perfect for my preppy frame of mind by Jill Rosenfeld including a Monogram Caviar tray in the Hampton Link and a vase with the Hampton Link pattern. Check out her fabulous site at:

Amazing work

I'm a huge dog lover...animal lover in general.  If I had my way, I would be living on a small farm with a mini-donkey, pony, pig, goat and lots o' labs .  While I'm waiting for the CT suburbs to morph into the VT countryside, I like to check out animal volunteer opportunities.  My friend, Nicole, passed along the following link for a documentary done by the Soi Dog Foundation: http://www.soidog.org/.  Take a look.  It's amazing, inspirational and an eye-opener.

Survived the Blizzard...Kinda

So we survived the 6th largest snowfall in history in this area.  I think we received about 20" here in southeast CT with 50 mile/hr winds.  Nuts.  It doesn't help that the plows aren't around and the commuter trains are out of commission.  Plus the dogs are quite unhappy that the snow hits their bellies.  Thankfully the kids are with their grandparents on a little 'staycation' in Cape Cod otherwise all hell would be breaking loose.

Meanwhile the better 1/2 and I have been down for the count - the flu has invaded our house.  Let's just say that we've been keeping CVS in business in between long naps.  So what do you do when hit with the double whammy of blizzard and flu?  I took the decorations off our mostly dead tree (note all the needles on the floor).

I utilized one of my favorite inventions ever - the PediEgg.  I highly recommend it for those of you who are unfamiliar.  The bottom of my feet are like a baby's bottom now.

If I was well, then I would be adhering to my favorite motto...but no such luck.  Bummer.

I also checked out every favorite fashion site and after examining the Lilly page, decided that I really should be in Anguilla on the beach with a pina colada in hand instead of dealing with all the 'excitement' in CT (too bad my bod doesn't look this but one can pretend).

Signing off for now because it's time for a disco nap...

The Day After...

Well, here I am...a new blogger.  I have been an active participant in perusing numerous blogs so, intrigued, I decided to give it a whirl and see where it brings me.  So it's the day after the Christmas.  Our tree seems to be 1/2 dead and I'm not sure why because it's certainly not for lack of care.  There are presents scattered everywhere, the dogs are chillin' and the better half is down for the count with the flu.  Plus, we're expecting 1' of snow (or snow they say - usually it's code for 6" of a slushy mix).  Basically, nothing much is happening today except recovery.

However, the holiday did remind me of the project that I have been meaning to undertake (for about 1 year at this point) and which will now become a New Year's resolution.  It's the creation of a needlepoint belt for my Southern ultimate prep - CBE (aka the better half).  The goal will be reminiscent of my favorite purveyors of needlepoint accessories - Smathers and Branson (www.smathersandbranson.com).  My intentions are good but the reality...hmmm.
