It's Been Too Long....

I have totally lost track of time!  I have been busy with all sorts of activities and endeavors.  I've gotten sucked into Mad Men and I'm finally on season 4.  To say I'm fairly obsessed is an understatement.  Love Jon Hamm, love that cool Betty Draper early 60's style even more.

I'm also reading a great to book to balance out all the TV...Room by Emma Donoghue.  All I can say is, wow.  A complete page turner...I pick it up and can't put it down.

I am f-i-n-a-l-l-y starting my major body overhaul.  A 5 day Blueprint Cleanse (I've done shorter BPCs before and the juice is actually good!) and I'm also going to try PX90 which is supposed to be awesome.  but we'll see if I can survive Day 1.

On to a little commentary on clothes.  One of my favorite dress designers, CK Bradley, now has an awesome retro-inspired ski line - Apres by CK Bradley.

Not only do I want on these sweet ensembles but I really want one of the super cute t-shirts...gotta love a good double entendre.

That's it for today and I promise I won't go on another unannounced hiatus.   :)

Sweet Cheeks

How cute are these (and if only my butt looked like the one in the picture  :)  The best part...40% of sales go to Children International to help feed starving children (www.sweetcheekpanties.com).

And since we're having a-n-o-t-h-e-r snow day...I've decided that I will soon be visiting the following locale in Turks & Caicos.  Amanyara.  Can I leave today?

Hi from CT

I think I'm going to go with a work theme today with a few other comments thrown in.  Looking for a new j.o.b.  I'm a Wall St recruiter so depending on the firm, some places are more casual than others.  However I am considering a firm that is not on Wall St - more casual, jeans Fridays.  Awesome family oriented environment.   I found an great site called Polyvore and you can put outfits together - so cool!  (www.polyvore.com).  Check out what I've come up with:

For casual Fridays.  Now for every other formal day:

Cool, right?

On to Girl Scout cookies...my daughter is a Daisy.  Dear Lord, I'm pooped already.  She's 5 though so psyched.  Plus she knows "I" was a super seller at her age.  Lol.  Probably b/c my Dad brought the order form to work.

One off...anyone watch Modern.  Family last night.  Can we say hysterical!  Here's a little preview for your viewing pleasure:

What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas...Maybe?

To begin, it's so cold here...we're still digging out from 28" and apparently we're about to have more on Tuesday.  Fabulous.

My little sister eloped!  They made a pit stop in Vegas on the way to Mexico and were married on Thursday evening.  We were able to see it via live stream which was cool (phew!).  They were engaged in mid-November and decided that life's too short to wait.  Plus my sister isn't really the kind to get into flowers, location, this, that, etc.  She's been through it twice via me and my sister.  At least my Mom was able to get the big weddings out of her system :)  Party in the spring though and then they're off to Costa Rica for their honeymoon.  Right now they're surfing in Mexico - If you ask me, they have the right idea.

Switching gears, sadly, my Uggs have come to end of their life.  They just don't do their job anymore but they'll be good to keep around the house.  So I ordered a new pair of boots and they look pretty cute (and warm).  Merrells.  Now I know of every detail of Merrells b/c my old better half (aka ex-husband), worked for the company so I'm confident in their abilities.  Here they are:

Hopefully they keep my feet toasty...and dry!

Snow Day

Well so far we have 18" and counting.  The trains aren't running, school is closed and our gazebo collapsed.  The dogs have no idea what to do because the snow is past their bellies plus we're essentially snowed in our house.  Sigh.

On a more fun note, love this bathroom!  The bags are cute, too, but I have my eye on the bathroom.

Finally, saying a prayer for an old college friend who was seriously injured/burned while fighting a fire in NJ.  Firefighters are so courageous.  Our thoughts are with you Jason.

More snow...oh my!

Yes, it's true.  More snow predicted for CT - a mean 12".  Everything has already (for the most part) been cancelled for tomorrow including school.  Two kids + house + a snowstorm = chaos.  Thank goodness for the Wii (which I actually like to play, too, especially tennis!).

Anyway, did a Spinning class yesterday and I'm so sore today - I haven't done one in a loooong time but it was good stuff.  Have to get in shape pronto b/c my friend and I are joining the TRX session in a few weeks.  It's awesome - a super good workout for the core but it also looks hard, hard, hard.  It was developed by the Navy Seals and basically it's a method of exercise that uses leveraged bodyweight.  You can do the system at home but it seems a lot of gyms are offering it these days.  The following website is a good resource:  www.fitnessanywhere.com

I also re-joined the Junior League this week after a 6 (?) year hiatus (basically since #1 was about 6 months old).  Now that the kids are school age and I actually have a little free time, I figured it would be nice to get into the swing of things again.  I had to transfer from my old league in Greenwich (CT) to the League in my new town but I'm looking forward to meeting a new group.  Plus they have a Art Auction Gala in the spring so I'm excited to get my dance on.

Moving on to another semi-random topic, I'm thinking of getting rid of my wedding china (which I have used once in 10 years) and just getting really nice everyday that can do double-duty. I had high hopes as I was scanning away at Bloomingdale's all those years ago, that I would be doing a lot of grand entertaining complete with the silver and Waterford.  Guess what?  Not so much.  My china pattern is gorgeous and I even just saw it on Gossip Girl :) but it seems wasteful to let it sit in a china cabinet.  Some disagree but life is too short.  I'm a huge fan of Villeroy & Boch plus there's a store in my area.  Here's what I'm thinking:

So cute, right?!

Weekend grab-bag

I went to the movies last night with my fun friend Nicole to see Country Strong.  How do I say this?  Loved it!!  Especially Garrett Hedlund.  I already ordered the soundtrack event though I am the furthest thing from a country fan.  Originally I ventured out b/c I love Gwyneth (did you know she gained 20 lbs for this role!?) and of course I wanted to see Leighton Meester from my favorite show, Gossip Grl.  Yes, I am  over the age of 35 and watch Gossip Girl.  Anyway, run, don't walk to see this movie.  Below is a clip of one of my favorite parts of the movie - Garrett (Beau) and Leighton (Chiles) singing "Give in to Me".  I think this could be a great 1st dance song for a wedding.

Moving on...have I mentioned that I have a slight addiction to magazines and an even greater addiction to clipping cool things I see in magazines?  Well, I do.  A few new things I have my eye on that run the gamut - technology to design.

Tocky - if you chill out in bed too long, it rolls off its perch and won't stop until you pick it up.  Genius and perfect for the 4:15 am wake-up calls in order to catch the 5:50 am train to NYC for work. (nandahome.com)

I have a slight aversion to germs - not Donald Trump-esque level - but nonetheless, I get grossed out by the idea of what's collecting on certain objects especially after spending my days in NYC and its modes of public transport plus the germ breeding ground known as the gym.  Here's one solution - a cellphone sanitizer by VIOlight that also sanitizes earbuds,  How cool!  My Iphone and earbuds will finally be safe.  (www.violight.com)

My final cool discovery...I detest coffee, always have.  However I am a huge tea drinker.  Check out these mugs by Tie Tea Mugs - each mug has a built-in anchor on the lip to hold the pesky string on your tea bag. (www.gnr8.biz)

An ending random note, does the Potty Patch commercial annoy anyone else out there?  Maybe I'm anti b/c the Potty Patch would never work if you have dogs over the size of 15 lbs (i.e. I have chunk weighing in at 100 lbs and her sibling weighing in at 80 lbs).  Plus, who wants an astro-turf square filled with pee-pee in the house.  Just sayin'.  That's it for now...I think I many continue my movie visits with a trip to see Black Swan.  Hmmm.

A Slight Break

I didn't realize that I've been MIA for so long...whoops.  It's been a busy week - kids, Jersey Shore premier last night (which was awesome), I just started a small side business (resume creation/revision for HS and college students) and I decided to start a cleanse with my friend (ugggg).  Oh, and I'm slightly obsessed with Oprah's new network (like I need anymore TV on the roster).

So first off, Jersey Shore.  I am a born and bred Jersey Girl who happened to end up in CT 10 yrs ago when I got married.  Therefore, I have a particular affinity for all things Jeerz...even the cheesy aspects.  It's one of those shows that some insist they would never watch but then they are busted when you walk in the room and it's on TV in all its glory.  Like a train wreck - you just can't look away.  My favorite line last night was when Deena was referred to as the 'rookie' and how DARE she confront a 'veteran'.  Lol.

I've also been keeping on top of my ever growing 'love' list.  If I surfed, I would own a board from London L Surf (http://www.londonlsurf.com/).  Cute, preppy, functional.

And I am looooving this...the DODOcase for your iPad.  'The DODOcase is a handmade iPad case inspired by the journals of your favorite artists. Made in San Francisco, California using traditional book binding techniques, the DODOcase brings a classic look to protecting your iPad.'  As an avid reader, I think this is simply fabulous!  Check out the link.

Off to shovel...more snow in CT.  Have a great weekend!

The Facebook Juggernaut

I finally went to see The Social Network yesterday.  I really liked it and thought Justin Timberlake did an awesome job (by the way, he became a triple threat out of the blue, right?).  Mark Zuckerberg is an interesting personality - at least as portrayed in the media - and obviously brilliant.  So I'm sitting hear watching Squawk Box and it looks like Goldman and and Digital Sky Technologies, a Russian firm, are investing approx $500 million in my one of my favorite pastimes.  As a result, FB is now valued at $50 BILLION.  I would have been happy with the crazy 6 month phenomena Silly Bandz idea but FB would have been pretty fabulous.

Speaking of FB, I honestly think I was probably one of the 1st people over the age of 25 with an account - I opened up my page, with much doubt, during the summer of 2007.  I am a career college recruiter (so I recruit college juniors for summer internships and college seniors for full-time jobs at my firm) and one summer, my interns convinced me that I just had to join so we could all 'keep in touch' (aka see the crazy antics that happen outside the work place - at least most of the time).  Back then, every one of my 20 friends were college kids.  I didn't do much except exist via a weak profile page.  Pictures of kids under 2 with sippy cups didn't quite compare to pictures of kids over 20 with solo cups.  Then FB started to catch on - people realized that you no longer needed a college email address to join.  Poof.  The rest is history.  To date I can rattle off 2 or 3 people who don't have a FB account - the holdouts - (and my parents are not included in this number).

Happy New Year!

Another year come and gone - wow.  Time flies.  2010 was fairly uneventful - some bumps here and there but I survived.  My baby started kindergarten which was VERY exciting and I moved which was not as exciting.  Same town, just closer to the beach.  The one bummer - the house is smaller so we're still finding appropriate spots for all our stuff (and I mean stuff).

I have a fairly ambitious plan for 2011 but who knows.  I have my eye on a couple cool jobs, I'm looking forward to re-engaging in my Jr. League chapter after a very long sabbatical,  I want to do a little  re-decorating, update the wardrobe, pick up yoga diligently again and I am determined (and I know I should have already done this) to visit the dermatologist for a skin check.  I also really want to try something called Freshology (www.freshology.com).  It's a food delivery service with meals comprised of completely fresh, all natural and gourmet meals.

Anyway, I've never been a huge NYE fan so we reached the following level of excitement last night:  chores, afternoon at the beach with kids & dogs, watched Diary of a Wimpy Kid with the kids, watched Getting Him to the Greek with the better half and a glass of wine, then read  The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein before bed which is soooo good but a tearjerker.

Today has been devoted to laundry, laundry and more laundry, moving furniture around, waiting for the cable dude to fix our blown-out modem and football.  Now I'm not really a collegiate football fan unless Notre Dame or BC are involved.  The better half on the other hand brings fan to a whole new level, especially if it involves any team in the SEC.  Ho-hum.

Anyway, wishing you love, laughter and happiness in the New Year!
